World Day for Safety and Health at Work, observed annually on April 28th, is a global initiative established by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in 2003. Its mission is to champion the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases on a worldwide scale.

In the realm of work, millions of individuals face injuries or fatalities each year due to occupational accidents and diseases. The impact of these incidents extends beyond the workplace, affecting families and communities. World Day for Safety and Health at Work Day serves as a crucial platform to illuminate the significance of safety and health at work and to rally efforts toward minimising work-related incidents, injuries and deaths.

This Year’s Theme: A Safe and Healthy Working Environment is a Fundamental Principle and Right at Work

This year’s theme emphasizes the essential nature of safe and healthy workplaces for all workers. It resonates with the core values upheld by Shoal and our partners. As a company dedicated to health and safety, we recognise the importance of fostering environments that prioritise the well-being of every individual in the workforce.

Our combined initiatives to Enhance Safety and Health at Work were drafted at workshops with our partners and delivered on projects throughout the UK and Europe. These included:

  1. Legislative Compliance: Implementing and enforcing occupational safety and health laws and regulations deemed imperative to create a secure work environment.
  1. Training and Education:  Providing comprehensive training and education on safety and health procedures, equipping workers with the knowledge and skills to navigate potential hazards.
  1. Investment in Safe Equipment: The acquisition and maintenance of safe equipment and machinery are crucial in mitigating workplace risks.
  1. Cultivating a Culture of Safety: Promoting a pervasive culture of safety and health within the workplace, fostering an environment where every worker feels protected and valued.

Shoal’s Impactful Campaign:

On World Safety at Work Day, Shoal took proactive measures to amplify awareness and promote safety for our esteemed clients, none more so than the work completed for Mytilineos Energy & Metals, a global industrial and energy company strategically positioned at the forefront of the energy transition at the European and international level. Our campaign was cultivated through workshops and team efforts and executed with precision, employing targeted multilingual materials across all significant projects globally for their business.

Key Components of Shoal’s Campaign:

  1. Multilingual Material: Crafting targeted multilingual materials ensured that safety awareness permeated across diverse linguistic landscapes, reaching every corner of Mytilineos’s global operations.
  1. Project Integration: Our campaign material was strategically designed, manufactured, and delivered to six major new renewable projects throughout the UK, aligning with Mytilineos’s commitment to safety across multiple endeavours.

Call to Action: Make Safety a Priority

As advocates for safety and health at work, we urge everyone to actively participate in World Day for Safety and Health at Work. Here are some actionable steps you can take:

  1. Engage with Your Employer: Initiate a conversation with your employer about safety and health hazards in your workplace.
  1. Seek Training: Ensure you have received training on all safety and health procedures relevant to your role.
  1. Proper Use of Safety Equipment: Utilize safety equipment correctly and promptly report any identified hazards to your supervisor.
  1. Be a Safety Advocate: If you observe unsafe practices, speak up and encourage a culture of safety among your colleagues.

Together, We Make Workplaces Safer
